The Lower Saxony State Office of Criminal Investigation was founded in 1946. It is a central department in the police service of Lower Saxony and responsible for collaboration with the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) as well as other state units. In 2006 the Criminological Research Department (KFST) was established within the LKA NI. The KFST’s main task is to carry out practical criminological research and to give scientific advice to all levels of the police force in criminological issues. Through this crime prevention related issues has become a central interest, and from 2009 through 2012 the LKA NI coordinated the EU-Project "Planning urban Security” (PluS), which was part of the ISEC program "Prevention of and Fight Against Crime".
Since 2013, the LKA has been involved in several research projects within the framework of civil security research of the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). As the network coordinator, the LKA was responsible for two projects concerning Urban Security (transit 2013-2017) and (DiverCity, starts in 2018). In addition to projects that are funded by third-party funds LKA also carries out projects that focus directly on operational issues. One such project is PreMAP (Predictive Mobile Analytics for Police), in which algorithms are designed to predict and subsequently to prevent future burglaries.

The German Congress on Crime Prevention – GCOCP (in German: Deutscher Präventionstag – DPT) was founded in 1995. Not only does the DPT organise the world's largest annual conference on crime prevention and related prevention areas, it also forms with its Institute for Applied Prevention Research (DPTI) a platform for information sharing and knowledge transfer. Moreover, the DPTI cooperates with other scientific and public institutions and participates in practice-oriented research. DPT and DPTI promote an interdisciplinary dialogue between prevention practice, prevention research and prevention policies.

Efus is a European network of local and regional authorities dedicated to urban security, it is made up of experts from both universities and private institutions and brings together around 250 local and regional authorities from 16 European countries. Efus acts as a consultant in the field of crime prevention within the United Nations, the Council of Europe, and the European Commission. Efus is a member of the Civil Society Forum on Drugs and assists with the activity carried out by the European Union Crime Prevention Network. It is also the Regional Vice President of the Global Network on Safer Cities, led by UN Habitat, representing Europe. One of its missions is to bring together research and practice. As such, Efus has been partner of and associated to a series of research projects, Efus will bring to CCI Project a pan-European dimension.
